The Computer Department has been providing managed IT services to the Sydney area for over 30 years. When they came to us, they had been relying on word-of-mouth referrals for new leads, but they were struggling to convert them. Many of their long term existing clients were retiring, and they were keen to break into a more youthful market. They also wanted to pivot their offering more towards cyber security services and needed help with a communications strategy to support this.

Their digital presence was solely comprised of an older website that wasn’t properly servicing the needs of their ideal clients. They also needed a new, more contemporary brand identity to better align with the type of client they were hoping to attract. They needed something bold and distinctive.

With this brief in mind, we designed a brand mark anchored by the highly identifiable shield (with associations of circuit boards and first aid) elevated by a colour palette of light, solid and youthful tones which were also cognitively distinctive in the categories of computers, software and hardware.

The aim was to help create associations between The Computer Department and words like “help” “trust” and “security”. With a new brand identity settled on, and a new website design created for their inhouse development team to build, it was time to work on growing awareness. In many ways, even though The Computer Department had been in operation for many years, we had to build a strategy like we were bringing them to market for the very first time. With the main goal being to drive new qualified leads to the new website, we launched an aggressive organic content strategy on both Facebook and Linked In aimed at building trust rapidly through helpful cyber security resources, and highlighting the company’s core values.

We were able to cultivate a following of over 1000 people in the first year with new accounts reached increasing at a consistent rate of 75% month-on-month. With such a strong foundation achieved quickly, we were able to set up a range of ever-green lead generation campaigns (both paid and organic) that continue to drive new qualified sales leads to the business each month.
